Kristin is a well established photographer located in sunny San Diego, California that specializes in newborns, babies, kids and family sessions. She also holds a BA in Business Administration from the California State University San Marcos. Her well designed Business Basics class is a 2 week course crafted to help you learn all that is involved in starting and operating a photography business.

This class is designed for those who are thinking about starting a business and want to be sure they have done the necessary research and fulfilled all legal obligations. It is also for those who may have already jumped into business, but would like to take a few steps back to ensure success and know they are following the right legal avenues.

Throughout the 2 week class, we will be taking time to answer pre-business and self-analysis questions, performing a break-even analysis, working through what kinds of licenses and permits are needed, talking about pricing, obtaining information on writing a business plan, and talking about business ethics. Kristin will provide specific, personalized feedback and guidance throughout the course. You will come out of this class better equipped with knowledge for your own business. You will also have a huge advantage over those who haven’t taken the time to work through all of these essential business exercises. So many times we find ourselves completely overwhelmed by the thoughts of licenses, taxes, and pricing that we just take a blind leap and get in over our heads. We may find ourselves in trouble with the state for operating a business without a license or the pivotal elements needed to be a legal business.

Natural light with Beth Ross is a two week mini workshop for the photographer who is comfortable shooting in manual mode, but struggling with natural light. This workshop focuses primarily on window light and backlight. Beth will help you learn and understand natural light in a way that you have never looked at it before. You will learn to find and embrace shadows and directional light. You will also learn how to achieve rim light and dreamy haze. Now is the perfect time to learn about natural light and the beauty that it can bring to your portraits.

What is covered? Window light is covered in week one and backlighting is covered in week two. The window light lesson covers metering for exposure, positioning your subject, using a reflector, finding flattering shadows, learning to love shadows, raising your ISO (it’s not as scary as it seems). The backlighting lesson covers backlighting with window light, how to achieve rim light, backlighting under the open sky, focusing in backlighting, how to achieve haze and flare.

What do you receive? During this mini workshop you will receive two detailed natural light lessons. Each lesson will be followed by an assignment where you can put to use the techniques you learned in the lesson. You will also have access to supplemental videos for each lesson where you can watch the techniques in action. Beth will be present on the Bloom forum each weekday to guide you through the process and answer any questions you might have, as well as provide detailed critique on your assignment images. At the conclusion of the mini workshop you will receive a pdf that includes both lessons and a link to download all the videos.

Be Extraordinary: creating exceptional images and a high-end brand from the most ordinary of circumstances!
Join Joyce for this two-week online course on creating a successful brand and compelling images as an on-location natural light photographer in client’s homes. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Joyce’s simple, streamlined approach to children’s photography including critiques of full sessions as well as a discussion of the marketing and branding that precedes them and the resulting sales.
