Let’s welcome Jill Thomas to Bloom!
Thanks so much for agreeing to interview Jill. I would love for you to take a second and tell everyone a little more about yourself.
jill thomas’s fine art photography has been featured in many magazines including, martha stewert weddings, on the cover of destination i do, southern weddings magazine, the b weddings, cosmopolitan bride, san diego’s exquisite magazine, brides, and ELLE interiors. her wedding work has also been published through out the blog world including, style me pretty, once wed, snippet and ink, green weddings shoes, 100 layer cake, and the bride’s cafe.
as a fine art photographer i specialize in wedding and lifestyle photography. after years of shooting digital, i felt drawn to photography’s raw elements. i now work with different cameras and films, as each one has something uniquely wonderful to offer.
i am located in san diego and i photograph people throughout southern california. i live in north county with my husband and three adorable children.
I know you are blessed to be a mother to 3 GORGEOUS children, how do you find a balance with your family and work?
It is all about scheduling family time and work time. I only shoot of Friday afternoons and Saturdays (days my husband can stay home with the kids). All my other work is done from 9:30-1pm while my son is at kindergarten, three days a week and well, I am a late owl. So lots of late nights. I do not hire a babysitter. If I were to hire help I would have someone come do my work so I could be with my kids, not someone to be with my kids so I can work. I also use album designers, graphic designers, editors if I need. Don’t do it all yourself!
When you started in photography, you started as a digital photographer. Why the switch to film? Do you ever shoot digital anymore?
I love the look and feel of film. I love how it looks, the softness, the colors, the texture, it is just beautiful. I also love playing with different cameras and films. It keeps me inspired and always looking forward to something new to try out. It also allows me to have more time with my family. Less money but more time and for me my time is more valuable. And NO! hehe, I never shoot digital unless it is on my iphone. All my family is also documented with film and instant film.
