Spotlight With Tara McGovern (Formerly Tara Staton) and Discount Code

We love having Tara as a vendor on our forum. Her knowledge about photography has always blown me away. I love how willing she is to share with others in the community. Read below to find out more about Tara and her products!

Hi! I’m Tara. Single mama to two beautiful boys, photographer, teacher, sun chaser, traveler, film junkie, and many other things that I probably shouldn‘t say. I will refrain from naming them because I really don’t want you do be scared off by just how dorky and nerdy I can get. This is my year of new beginnings. Many of you might know me as Tara Staton. Just this month my business name officially changed to Tara McGovern (www.taramc.com). I spent the last year surviving having a baby, getting divorced, and starting over as a single mom to my two boys. I kind of dropped out of the online world for a while, and for that I apologize. However, it was a great time for reflection to really help me decide where I want to go with my business and with my art! I see it as a chance to reinvent many things, make them better, stronger, and more like what I would want if I were the client/buyer.

With these products, that is exactly what I have done. I retired the old workshop book in favor of creating smaller, more affordable guides that focus on certain topics. The reality is, there are many workshops and resources out there right now, that are FABULOUS. There are plenty of other people teaching how to use a camera, lighting basics, etc that do a much better job at it than me. So what is it that I do best, what is it that my work is known for, that I can share with others that will help them grow? I came up with a few answers, and this is the start to a year packed full with new ideas, resources, and hopefully discovery!

I can’t give away all of my ideas (I think I’ll save some surprises for later!). However, this is the first of many to come! The WIDE OPEN field guide for photographers. I wanted to make it simple, clean, affordable, easy to understand, something you can carry with you, and something that you can use no matter what gear you are working with. I shoot entire sessions with a wide angle lens, wide open apertures, and wide open spaces. It is what I am best known for by my clients. It is what most of my client inquiries mention as something they are drawn to or looking for. Shooting portraits with a wide angle? I can hear what you are thinking. Yep, breaking rules. I’ve never been one for following them though. So I’m ok with that. That being said, using a wide angle lens, especially at apertures like 1.4 can be frustrating compositionally and technically. So, this guides purpose is to challenge you, give you every nitty gritty detail of how I make it work and why I do it, and to open up your world of shooting to new wider angles!

My current feature session on my site was shot entirely with a 24mm canon lens. It can be done!

I have also re-released the Captivate Image Guide that was previously inside of the Tara Staton Workshop Book, as well as cut the price of my workflow actions in half! My #1 goal this year is to keep every product I create affordable for every single photographer. I have to be honest and say I’ve grown tired of seeing overpriced resources that aren’t accessible to those starting out or those on a budget (lets face it, 99% of us aren‘t getting rich at this). I’d rather break things down into smaller pieces and let you decide specifically what you want! I hope you enjoy!

I would love to have you join me on Facebook, my Blog, and Captivate (my resource site for photographer). I would also love to hear any and all suggestions, ideas, and questions that you have!
