The Bloom Collective | Shadow Play I and II

“All the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow”
-Leo Tolstoy

Light is usually the star when it comes to photography and shadow is often left…well…in the shadows. But shadow itself can be a powerful storyteller. It’s not only about what you can see but also what you can’t. Shadow gives shape to the light. It enhances light, makes it dynamic, evokes emotion. Shadow can direct the eye and create contrast and drama. It adds depth and dimension to images. I’m really drawn to playing with shadow. I use it to tell my story. And I love to use it to create a more powerful image. While shadow may technically be the absence of light…light is truly nothing without shadow.
